spring has fallen

i know we are bracing for fall and i promise to keep embracing that but if you're reading this blog then you must be interested in what an independent designer is doing right this minute and i don't mind letting you in on the spring 2011 BLACK MOLD secrets. as you know we have to stay ahead in this business and i am really excited about the future.

earring philosophy

i've been teaching my secret feather earring making skills to my most trusted employee, well my only employee, he did a great job. so we filled the orders and kept some for the etsy shop. this is the first time in history that i have had extra stock of these things in my house. as you can see my employee likes to write philosophy on his table.

the knife

so one rainy day boyfriend was making me a present and i was practicing my embroidery (needs a lot of work, i know) and i decided to turn it into a present for him. i waxed it with beeswax making it water repellent and old looking. now, boyfriend doesn't actually own a knife so it was a little bit like in wayne's world when stacy gives wayne a gun rack. but of course it is a mini pouch that can be used for anything. are you wondering what he made me? stay tuned.

silkscreen

i did it! i finally have a silkscreen set up in my studio. i'm just making labels right now but maybe do something else later. i used to do a lot of printing at nokomis so i never really needed my own set up but here in montreal on my own, i wanted it so i did it. thanks to my big brother for making me the awesome screens one year as a present they even have my initials wood burned on them, sooo sweet.

everyday we catch and release (or squish) at least 3 spiders!! very scary for two arachnophobics.

pin cushion

thanks to elizabeth for bringing me this piece of work from her university days in art school. she dragged it across the country for me and i have found the perfect use for it.......the best pin cushion in all the galaxy.

details

the gillespie is an oldie but a goodie. this is a large square shoulder bag with double adjustable straps. it's design is inspired by a vintage bag my very stylish friend tara gillespie has. many details in both the cut and from the leather jacket it used to be.





the vevila has many details with gathers and panels and black studs and the leather from the coat has a very exotic design stamped on it.





menage a trois can be worn three ways. as a side satchel or shorten the strap and it is a shoulder bag or clip the top to the strap and it is a backpack. there are many many pockets and compartments.

here are just a few of the bags that i dropped off at unicorn in montreal on st. laurent yesterday. they look quite bad ass and me too in my black dace summer dress and half shaved head. check out the new dace fall video. i really want to do a video campaign soon, anyone interested?

Unicorn

today i am dropping off some bags and jewelry at a lovely store called UNICORN. it is my first montreal store and it is a beautiful one.

puces pop

i'll be a vendor at puces pop craft and art fair this coming fall (October 2-3). i'm really excited about pop montreal, i always wanted to go to the musical festival and now i am apart of it. i need to work on my french! i looked up puces and it translated to chips?

leather bottom crystal bag

here is that bag again only this time with a recycled leather bottom. it looks more luxurious than the regular cotton version and it is my personal favorite. you can buy it on etsy right this minute or you can get it in some select stores in canada (you know the ones).






the top is made from hand dyed 100% cotton with a light beeswax coating and the bottom is recycled leather.
i am wearing a genevieve savard inside dress with a ratty old broken down t-shirt i liberated from college back when i was learning to make costumes. it was worn by a red neck in footloose bah ha ha ha ha. oh and a little lion pyrrha necklace.
